Arthur W. Ryan Discusses the Importance of Sustainable Fashion

In today’s more socially and environmentally conscious climate, everyone is doing his or her part to help save the environment, including those in the fashion industry. More and more designers are migrating toward the concept of “eco-fashion,” also known as sustainable clothing. Arthur W. Ryan, Chief Operating Officer of Loomstate, LLC, a company dedicated to using only environmentally and socially accountable production methods, discusses the importance of sustainable fashion.

Absence of Chemicals – With eco-fashion, the goal is to produce organic cotton – cotton that is free from dyes, bleaches, insecticides, or pesticides. The absence of chemicals makes clothing more durable, as the colors do not fade away as quickly and clothing can be reused or recycled.

Pollution Control – When chemicals are used in the production of materials, dyes, and bleaches, oftentimes the chemicals are not disposed of properly and end up polluting the air, rivers, and other water sources. As sustainable fashion does not use these chemicals, this pollution does not occur.

Economic Growth – Profit margins increase due to the relatively low cost of producing organic cotton. Those who are invested in eco-fashion also believe in fair trade and in ensuring that the people who produce raw materials are able to benefit from the growing industry in sustainable clothing.
